LITTLE FERRY (July 31, 2009) A man and a woman were found dead shortly after 11 a.m. in a warehouse office at 53 Bergen Turnpike in what a law enforcement official characterized as a possible murder-suicide.

The county prosecutor’s office identified the dead man as Kyung Hyung Cho, 55, who lived in his office at the warehouse. Investigators located a knife near Cho’s body.

The female body was not positively identified at the time of this report.

“The initial call came from a family member who responded to the business establishment after she was unable to contact her estranged husband,” the release said.

Autopsies were scheduled for August 1 by the Bergen County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Initial reports suggested a possible murder-suicide but authorities said the investigation was ongoing.

Body Found in Passaic River Identified as Missing Waldwick Woman

Bergen Live Staff Report

ELMWOOD PARK (July 6, 2009) Authorities have identified the female body found yesterday in the Passaic River as that of missing Waldwick mother of three Beverly T. Spano, according to a report in the Bergen Record.

Elmwood Park Police Chief Donald Ingrasselino said there was no evidence to suggest she was murdered. Investigators used dental records to identify the body after it was pulled from the river Sunday night.

A passerby discovered Spano’s body at 5:40 p.m. in the river along River Drive, south of Market Street, according to police Lt. Thomas Sabat.

Sabat said divers from the Bergen County Police Department and investigators from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office were called to remove the body Sunday night.

The body was too badly decomposed and was taken to the county medical examiner’s office for an autopsy and positive identification, Sabat said Sunday.

At the time of the discovery, police said it was a female and appeared to match the description of the then-unidentified Spano.

The discovery concludes a search that began Thursday after Spano was reported missing by her husband.

Spano’s unlocked minivan was found at an Elmwood Park marina on River Drive and Washington Avenue Thursday night.

Hours before Spano’s body was found, two fishermen discovered a two-year-old child’s body down river in Clifton at approximately 3:30 p.m.

Sabat said there is no connection between the two bodies.

The investigation into the child’s death is ongoing, according to Passaic County authorities.

Bergen Prosecutor Seeks Public Input on Accreditation

A team of national law enforcement experts will review the operations of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and seek the public’s comment as part of the agency’s efforts to become certified by the Commission on the Accreditation of Law Enforcement Agencies, County Prosecutor John Molinelli announced May 11.

As part of the assessment, the public will be able to offer their own reviews of the office Monday, May 18 by calling 201-226-5558 between 9 – 11 a.m., according to a news release.

“Verification by the team that the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office meets the Commission’s ‘best practice’ standards is part of a voluntary process to achieve NJSACOP Accreditation and CALEA National Recognition,” Molinelli said in a statement.

Molinelli called the CALEA certification a “highly prized recognition of law enforcement professional excellence.”

The CALEA program is a voluntary review process where outside experts examine a wide range of an agency’s policies and procedures.  In 2001, more than 500 agencies in the United States, Canada, and Barbados where certified, according to the CALEA Web site.  Recent figures were not available at the time of this writing.
