DUMONT (July, 30 2009) Two armed men were arrested by New York City police today after allegedly robbing Mariner’s Bank at 562 Washington Ave, according to authorities and preliminary reports.
Special Agent Bryan Travers, spokesman for the FBI’s Newark office, said the suspects were arrested by NYPD officers. No other information was available he said.
Dumont Police and officers from the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Unit were at the scene but declined to comment. A phone message left for Dumont Police Chief Brian Venezio was not immediately returned.
Early reports suggest Fort Lee officers chased the suspects into New York, however, Fort Lee Police referred questions to Dumont authorities.
A Bergen County Police Department official confirmed a pursuit had occurred but declined to elaborate and said county police were not involved.
Police declined to say if any money was taken.
